Fotos On Fabric
Nothing captures a point in time quite like a picture. You know what I mean, photographs bring back precious memories, archive family history, and in our case, inspire amazing innovation. Think of all the wonderful pictures you have sitting in albums, boxes, on phones or memory sticks. Quilts are heirloom art that bring warmth and comfort to our homes. Photos on quilts bring cherished memories and charming warmth together.
Inspiration was born but it was years before I found a photo printing process that produced nearly original photo quality fabric with color fast ink on soft fabric.
My love of pictures of old parlor stoves inspired my love for pictorial quilts. If you've ever made a memory or pictorial quilt, you know the extra steps it takes to get your photos onto a quilt. Inkjet printing my photos onto fabric was my first attempt to add photos of my beloved cast iron parlor stoves to my quilts. The size limits frustrated me and I was never satisfied with the results. Not to mention the inks faded when I washed my quilt. My search for a better way lead me to a nearby screen printer. Again the process didn't produce the color fast, soft fabric pieces I wanted. But I didn't give up.
After all the trials and errors, I'm pleased to say that we have finally found a way. It has been a steep learning curve, but we can now print almost any size photo onto soft, color fast, 100% Kona cotton fabric.
